Killers of the Flower Moon Review

Killers of the Flower Moon is the latest film from legendary director Martin Scorsese.  It stars Leonardo Dicaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone. The film follows Ernest Burkhart (Dicaprio), his uncle William “King” Hale, and his wife Mollie (Lily Gladstone), in post World War I, Oklahoma. The film is primarily set on the Osage reservation during the 1920’s a time when members of the Osage tribe became the richest per capita people on earth due to oil found on the land. However white guardians had to oversee the allotments given to the natives since the government considered them incompetent and upon the death of these natives the mineral rights could pass to these guardians. This led to a series of murders on the reservation which is the central focus of the film.

Let's start with the negatives which are few. I felt the film had some pacing problems and could’ve expanded upon some of their core characters. Now onto the positives Martin Scoresess direction was fantastic and the performances of the three leads (Dicaprio, De Niro, Gladstone) were oscar worthy. The pure scope of the film was evident as the large budget dripped off the screen with set designs, and sequences that were beautiful to behold on the big screen. I preferred this film to his previous outing the Irishmen since its tackled different themes and subject matter then many of his previous films and it's a must watch for any movie goer.
