Kung Fu Panda 4 is the latest installment in the Kung Fu Panda franchise and is directed by Mike Mitchell starring Jack Black as Po aka the Kung Fu Panda or Dragon Warrior. The film differs from the three previous installments by solely focusing on Po and a streetwise fox played by Awkwafina.
The film was the worst in the franchise but by no means a bad film. It followed the same basic formula as the previous films where Po goes on a quest and gains a new ability or perspective that helps him defeat the villain.
However, with a smaller budget, the animation was on a different scope than the previous films despite being the most recent entry. The Furious Five not appearing in speaking roles in the film was disappointing since their characters specifically Tigress, are some of the best in the franchise. The focus on Po’s fathers (his panda father, and surrogate bird father) as a subplot was funny and I enjoyed their increased screen time in the films.
Overall for fans of the franchise go see this film at a drive-in near you.
