Gladiator 2 is directed by legendary director Ridley Scott and is a sequel to the 2000 film. It stars Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, the son of Russel Crowe's Maximus from the first film, who has been living in hiding in North Africa following the events of the first film. The film has a very similar story to the original film. A man is thrust into the gladiator ring after the death of his wife and seeks revenge on those who killed her.
The film stars an ensemble cast including Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Pedro Pascal, and Connie Nielson who reprises her role from the original. It is the best action film of the year with solid performances and some epic action sequences.
The film is not without its flaws it has some pacing issues, and it is never explained how Lucius Verus becomes so powerful without formal training however it is the type of film that's not made much today. Despite not having as good of a story as the original film the action is arguably superior and its a film that deserves to be seen at a drive-in near you.
