Between the Temples Review

Between the Temples stars Jason Schwartzman and Carol King and follows a cantor (Schwartzman) one year after the death of his wife. King's character is Scwartzmans former music teacher and also a fellow widow. They bond over the bar mitsvah lessons he gives her as she seeks to be bar mitzvahed as an adult after being unable to do so as a child due to her parent's communist affiliations.

The film is funny and heartwarming it's a very good take on a romantic comedy that does not feel forced. Even though it depicts a relationship with a more than 30-year age gap it never comes across as unnatural. Its a film any fans of more high-brow comedies will enjoy and although it has a limited release I'd recommend it to any one looking for a different type of comedy once it goes on video.
