Companion is an engaging sci-fi thriller that delivers suspense, strong performances, and an eerie atmosphere. Sophie Thatcher shines as Iris, an AI companion struggling with self-awareness, while Jack Quaid plays Josh with a mix of charm and quiet menace. The film does a great job building tension, and its sleek cinematography enhances the unsettling dynamic between the two leads.
That said, the story treads familiar ground, exploring AI autonomy and control in ways that other sci-fi films have done more effectively. While Companion doesn’t break new ground, it’s still an entertaining watch with moments of dark humor and solid storytelling. Definitely worth seeing at a drive-in near you.
