Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

by Released : 2026-05-23

The Mandalorian & Grogu unfortunately suffers from many of the same problems that held back season three of The Mandalorian. While the film still delivers entertaining action, strong performances, and plenty of charming moments between Din Djarin and Grogu, it ultimately feels more like an extended episode of the Disney+ series than the cinematic event many fans hoped for. For a franchise with a universe as massive and rich as Star Wars, the story feels surprisingly small in scale considering its big-screen release.

That said, there is still plenty here for longtime fans to enjoy. Pedro Pascal once again brings warmth, quiet emotion, and gravitas to Din Djarin, continuing to prove why the character became one of the franchise’s most beloved modern heroes. Grogu also remains one of the best characters in all of Star Wars, with nearly every scene involving him delivering either heartfelt emotion, humor, or genuine tension. The film clearly understands why audiences connected so deeply with the duo in the first place, and their relationship continues to anchor the entire story.

A major highlight is Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, who ends up being a surprisingly fun addition to the franchise. His more physical and emotional interpretation of a Hutt helps make the character stand out from previous versions seen in the series, adding some fresh energy to the film.

The action throughout the movie is slick and entertaining, especially during the gladiator arena sequences and the final assault on the Hutt palace. However, the film never fully justifies its theatrical scope. Instead of telling a grander, more cinematic story worthy of the big screen, The Mandalorian & Grogu often feels constrained by the structure and pacing of the television show, preventing it from reaching the epic heights the franchise is capable of.
