The Creator is the latest film from director Gareth Edwards and stars John David Washington as a soldier who protects a new type of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the appearance of a young girl who he names Alphie. The Creator is set in 2070 in an alternate timeline where rogue AI nuked Los Angeles in the year 2055.
The US government in response hunts down the artificial intelligence, and Joshua Taylors (Washington) quest to protect this young girl is the crux of the story. The film is an original sci-fi film, with an $80 million budget a rarity in modern day hollywood. Although some critics have felt this film is derivative of sci films like Blade Runner, or Minority Report the cinematography and strong performances make it a standout and one of the best films of the year. The film takes an interesting stance on AI in modern society in a world where its always had a role. This theme is even more prevelent as the technology makes its way into everyday life in are own world.
