Wicked is directed by Jon M. Chu and stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Galindawho, who later go on to be the wicked and good witch in 1939's Wizard of Oz. The film is a prequel to those events and is based on the 1995 book by Gregory Maguire and the 2003 musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman.
This film surprised me when I heard it would be two parts I was sceptical and felt it was a cash grab. However, the decision was a smart one as it allowed the songs to be performed with a fantastic eye for direction, sets, and overall quality.
The negative is I want Part 2 to come sooner. The film was one of the year's best with Oscar-worthy performances from Erivo and Grande and every moviegoer should see it at a drive-in or theater near you.
